Social Commitment

A commitment treated as a public, social object — owned by the dyad of debtor and creditor and observable to third parties — rather than a private mental state of an individual agent. Social commitments are the central primitive of commitment-based ACL semantics: their lifecycle (created, conditional, active, fulfilled, violated, cancelled) is what an external observer monitors to verify protocol compliance. Castelfranchi 1995 is the foundational reference; Singh, Colombetti, Yolum, and Fornara give operational accounts.
