Persuasion Dialogue

A Walton-Krabbe dialogue type whose shared goal is to resolve a conflict of opinion: one party advances a thesis, the other challenges it, and each tries to bring the other to accept (or retract) commitments. The participant goals are aligned with the shared goal — both want the disagreement settled. Distinct from Negotiation (conflict of interest, not opinion) and deliberation (deciding what to do, not what is true). Modern dialogue protocols and most ACL conversation policies for argument exchange instantiate this type.
