Propensity Score

The probability of receiving treatment given observed covariates, e(x) = P(T=1 ∣ X=x). Rosenbaum and Rubin’s key result is that it is a balancing score: under ignorability, conditioning on the scalar propensity score alone suffices to remove covariate confounding, so matching or weighting on e(x) yields unbiased treatment-effect estimates without modelling the full covariate vector.
