Psychological Nominalism

Sellars’s thesis that all awareness of sorts, resemblances, abstract entities — indeed of anything as something — is a linguistic affair: there is no pre-linguistic “grasping” of universals or meanings prior to the acquisition of a language. It is the positive doctrine paired with his attack on the Myth of the Given, and a cornerstone of the view that concepts live in the Space of Reasons.
