Kerberos

The MIT Project Athena authentication system (1988), the most widely-deployed practical descendant of the Needham-Schroeder symmetric-key protocol. Uses a Key Distribution Center (KDC) split into an Authentication Server and a Ticket Granting Server; principals obtain time-limited tickets encrypted under shared keys. The basis of Active Directory authentication and most enterprise SSO.
