Hedge (Causal Inference)

The graphical structure that witnesses non-identifiability of a causal effect. A hedge is formed by a pair of nested C-forests sharing a root set; Shpitser and Pearl prove that an interventional distribution is identifiable from observational data iff the causal graph contains no hedge for it. The ID Algorithm fails exactly when it encounters one, making the hedge the complete obstruction to identification.
