Cardinality

A measure of the “size” of a set, generalised to infinite sets via bijection: two sets have the same cardinality iff their elements can be put in one-to-one correspondence. Cantor showed that this notion is non-trivial in the infinite — ℕ and ℝ have different cardinalities — and that cardinalities form an unbounded ascending hierarchy (ℵ₀ < ℵ₁ < …).
